The rise of the sharing economy has changed the way that urbanites consume products and use services. It has proven to be a force that bridges public and private interests – it is, at once, social and commercial, formal and informal – and its ubiquity has prompted a global, cross-sectoral evaluation of how it has been so successful and why it may need to be better regulated.
In 2019, NewCities launched a research initiative Designing for Trust: Security, Privacy and Collaborative Consumption to examine trust as an unexplored pillar of the sharing economy and its impact on behavioral patterns in cities.
