Innovations in Urban Housing
juin 4, 2019 — Highlight, The Big Picture
Promoting Affordability, Health, and Community
Most of the housing that has been built, and continues to be built, is premised on lifestyles, technology, and demographics of the past. As a result, a lot of the housing is unnecessarily expensive, unsustainable for the planet, unhealthy for its inhabitants, and not the type of housing today’s urbanites desire. While there is no one innovation that will solve our housing crisis, cities need to look at both the existing housing stock and new methods of creating housing to answer the needs of today’s cities. This Big Picture editorial, presented by Citi, asks urban experts from around the world to comment on the new lifestyles, new financing mechanisms, and innovative construction and design services that are helping us meet the needs of the housing market.
