National President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Jan Simpson has been a postal worker for over 30 years and has worked with CUPW since 2011. She holds a position as a Bilingual Postal Clerk with Canada Post.
She is the first Black person to be elected to CUPW’s National Executive Committee, and the first Black woman to lead a national union in Canada. She is also a member of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
Her involvement in the community has earned her the Urban Alliance on Race Relations 2019 Labour Award, and in 2020 she was selected as one of the 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women.
Jan continues to work diligently and fight for the rights of all 50,000 plus CUPW members. She takes pride in the reputation and legacy of CUPW. Everyday she aims to galvanize the membership to fight for the equality and justice of all workers and uses her voice to advocate for workers around the world, never forgetting the CUPW members who have come before her, those who stand with her presently and those of the future she seeks to protect.
