Communications Manager, Social Policy Institute, Washington University in St. Louis

Sarah is the communications manager for the Social Policy Institute (SPI). In her role, Sarah tells stories and disseminates research that lead to social change, more equitable policies and stronger communities. Prior to joining SPI, Sarah led communications and marketing for a community foundation in Indianapolis where she applied communications strategies, evidence-based research and resident engagement to generate community support that dismantles systemic racism and empowers people. Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations from Missouri State University and is happy to be back in St. Louis where she was born and raised.

What do you find most inspiring about your city?

St. Louis has changed a lot in the past ten years, from new restaurants, businesses and greenways, to powerful social justice movements. I am inspired by the entire scope of these changes, but it’s the organizations and individuals working to make St. Louis a better, more equitable place that inspires me most. Through SPI’s Inclusive Growth advisory committee and event series, I’ve had the opportunity to meet community leaders and learn about many incredible organized social and economic justice efforts throughout our region. Individuals giving their time and talent because they believe in the potential of the city—this inspires me. After living in another state for the past few years and watching St. Louis from afar, I am honored to once again be a part of the St. Louis community.
