As COVID-19 spread, it became undeniable that our current cities and public spaces needed many improvements to place wellbeing at the core of policy and design. It became more crucial than ever to carry out conversations and encourage wellbeing initiatives worldwide. For this second edition, more than 90 cities applied to be recognized as a Wellbeing City. Led by Montréal Mayor Valérie Plante on September 15, 2020, the Wellbeing Cities Award Ceremony revealed the winning cities carefully selected by our Jury and Advisory board out of 20 shortlisted finalists:
- Nature & Biodiversity: Bordeaux
- Better Urban Health: Buenos Aires
- A vibrant urban economy: Curitiba
- Prioritizing wellbeing: Curridabat
- Cohesive Communities: New York
GOING VIRTUAL
Due to the pandemic, the global conversation and Award Ceremony was carried out in our most inclusive format yet: a three-day fully virtual program. On September 15-17, 2020, more than 1,300 participants from over 90 countries joined us live, connecting our expansive network of local and international mayors, city leaders, corporate executives, and experts from nonprofits and academia, all committed to advancing urban wellbeing.
Experts and leaders in the space weighed in on issues such as Civic Engagement, Housing for Health, Climate Migration, Resilience in Cities, Urban Biodiversity, Smart Cities, Equitable Mobility Future, and more.
